In Tuḷu language, petta (ಪೆತ್ತ) word is used to mean cow. It is originated from the Dravidian root peṟṟa(ಪೆಱ್ಱ). Tamiḻ language have the cognate of this word & it is peṟṟaṁ (பெற்றம்).


Another rarely used word to mean cow is 'māḍ' (ಮಾಡ್). Its Tamizh cognate is 'māḍu' (மாடு).
