Meaning of chicken is 'kōri' in common dialect & 'kōḷi' in Brahmin dialect of Tuḷu language. The OldTuḷu one for chicken was 'kōḻi'. The word kōḻi(kōri/kōḷi) is originated from the Proto Dravidian word *kōḻ. 

Its Tamizh & Malayaḷam cognate is kōḻi (கோழி/കോഴി). Kannaḍa cognate is kōḷi(ಕೋಳಿ) which was kōḻi(ಕೋೞಿ) in OldKannada. In Koḍava and Arebhashe languages the word kōḷi(ಕೋಳಿ) is used to mean chicken.

In Telugu language the word kōḍi(కోడి) is used to mean chicken which was kōḻi(కోೞಿ) in old Telugu.
