In Tuḷu language the word 'puri' is used to mean worm. In Brahmin dialect of Tuḷu the word 'puḷi' is used. The OldTuḷu one for worm was 'puḻi'.

The Cognate of this word in Malayaḷam and Tamiḻ is 'puḻu'. It's Kannada cognate is 'huḷu' which was 'puḻu' in OldKannada.
