"Tulunad Tradition Maankali Nalike "Maankaali Nalike/dance is performed during Deepavali. Maankaali visits houses on the second day of Deepavali. This tradition is practiced in interior places of Karkala. This tradition is as same as Aati Kalenja which visits the houses during the Month of Aati. People offer paddy, rice, coconuts, salt, tamarind, pieces of charcoal and chilli they get that day by the side of their houses to Maankaali. Maankaali places a mask in front, serving and pray to the Goddess to drive away the evils affecting the village. Later float the masks away in the river. This is symbolic of sending away the evil powers which had come here to cast bad influence and destroy bad things.
